How long will I stay logged in? Can I elect not to stay logged in?
By default, you will remain logged in for two weeks if you do not log out. To elect out of this, simply log out before closing your session with trendero.com.
Why do I have to share my full name?
Because Trendero is an open database that anyone can add to, we want to discourage abuse by discouraging anonymity. Besides, calling you "tsmith3424" just doesn't feel right.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, e-mail us at accounts@trendero.com.
What's this about user awards?
Some of our most active, accurate and/or just plain friendly users are automatically rewarded on our system with unique awards. There are several categories for awards, including Top Trendspotter (lots of trends, lots of accuracy), Top Trend Updater (these users are on top of everything, and they share it), Top Commenter (they've got a lot to say, and everyone digs it), and Top Networker (mad connections). Drop us a line if you think we need more or if you think you've been overlooked.
What does it mean to follow a user? Who are the people following me?
If you find that the trends you really dig are all being reported by the same user, you may want to follow that user to be kept informed of her activity on Trendero. After all, she must be doing something right. And if someone is following you, congratulations: someone likes your style and has chosen you to keep them informed.
SPOTTING & REPORTING TRENDSHow do I know if what I see is really a trend?
If it's creative and/or fun and you think it's interesting, report it. It may turn out to be nothing, or it may turn out to be the next big thing.
I saw something I wanted to add, but I think someone else already reported it. What do I do?
If it has already been reported, update the existing trend. If you think your trend is truly different, report a new trend. We're working on the backend to resolve double reporting, so we may contact you if we combine your information with someone else's.
How does the Trendiness Score work?
Trendero uses a cutting-edge algorithm to help separate what's hot from what's not. The Trendiness Score is an absolute (i.e., not relative) score that takes into consideration several factors, including: who reported the trend; how recently the trend was spotted; how actively users are updating the trend; how many people are looking at the trend; and many other data points. This is also constantly being improved, so let us know if you have any suggestions.
What is the sightings map?
This tracks all locations where a trend has been spotted. It gives you an idea of how far the trend is spreading.
What are all the graphs about?
Think of these as the pulse of the trend: the graphs show movement in the trend's ranking, as well as frequency of sightings, over the last 30 days. This, combined with the sightings map, can tell you if the trend is spreading or fading.
FINDING & FOLLOWING TRENDSWhat are all of these buttons on top of the map?
The Trendero database is a raw feed of data being submitted by users all around the world, and it can be overwhelming. So we built in some easy filtering tools to help you find what matters most to you. You can see which filters are currently placed on the map by checking the map header. But if you want to drink straight from the tap, just hit "Show All" (better yet, try also clicking "WORLD") and you'll see the feed as it comes in, live and raw.
I found a trend I'm really interested in. What can I do to stay updated?
Click "Follow Trend" to "bookmark" a trend on your profile. Then, when anything is updated on that trend, you'll automagically be informed, and you can watch as the trend spreads around the world or fades out of the spotlight.
What does the "new updates" red banner do?
This dynamic banner lets you know, since you last logged in, how many updates have been posted either by people you're following or to trends you're following. Click on it to see your profile and a list of the updates.
